What It Is

Mahindra Defence Systems Ltd (MDSL) is the Mahindra Group's defence & aerospace subsidiary, providing land, naval and air defence systems to the Indian Armed Forces. In land systems, MDSL won a ₹1,056 crore MoD contract on 22 March 2021 to supply 1,300 Light Specialist Vehicles (LSVs) — light-weight 4-wheel drive air-transportable tactical armoured specialist vehicles — to the Indian Army over four years (2021-2025). In naval systems, Mahindra Defence Naval Systems partnered with UK's Ultra Electronics (July 2015) for underwater warfare equipment and won a ₹1,349.95 crore (~₹1,350 Cr) MoD contract on 27 August 2021 to supply 14 Integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare Defence Suite (IADS) systems for Indian Navy warships — the first major Indian Navy contract to an Indian private sector company for underwater detection and protection. IADS is a high-end underwater equipment designed to detect and protect warships from underwater threats. In air/airborne systems, Mahindra Telephonics Integrated Systems (a JV with Telephonics Corporation, now L3Harris) opened India's first private airborne radar facility in 2014 (Feb 2014). Mahindra Defence is also developing 'all-in-one' counter-UAS (C-UAS) technology for protection of critical infrastructure (December 2024). In August 2026, MDSL incorporated Novavayu Aerospace (30 July 2026) as a wholly-owned subsidiary for aircraft manufacturing.
